Not sure which direction to take? Let’s talk it through

Angela Carney, college advisor

School counselor. Career counselor. Your guide.

A PERSON IN YOUR CORNER

Meet Angela Carney.

ROOTED IN WHO YOU ARE.Room to grow.
Support to get there.

Choosing a college is about more than getting an acceptance letter. It’s about helping your student understand their interests, explore their options, and take a confident next step.

Angela brings more than 15 years of high school guidance counseling and more than seven years of career counseling in higher education to that conversation. She has also taught career-related courses at the college and graduate levels.

That experience connects two important perspectives: what students need as they navigate high school, and how their education can prepare them for life beyond college.

What that means for your family

  • A student-centered starting point. Explore interests, strengths, and goals before narrowing the college list.
  • A broader view of the options. Connect college and major choices to the opportunities your student wants to explore.
  • A more manageable process. Turn questions about applications, essays, and next steps into a plan your family can work through.

Start with your student’s questions.

You don’t need a finished college list or a perfect plan. Let’s talk about where your student is now and the support that would help them move forward.

Guidance with
the student in mind.

Working with high school students means understanding that a college application is only one part of a much bigger story.

Carney College Advising brings a school counselor’s perspective to independent college planning: listening first, making space for questions, and helping each student move forward with purpose.

The goal is a college path that makes sense for your student—and a process your family can navigate with confidence.

Start a conversation

A SIMPLE WAY TO START

From “where do we begin?”
to “we’ve got a plan.”

01

Let’s get acquainted

Book an introductory conversation to share where you are and what you’re looking for.

02

Make it personal

Complete the student intake so we can understand your goals, questions, and priorities.

03

Take the next step

Choose the support that fits and start making progress with a clear direction.

GOOD QUESTIONS. THOUGHTFUL ANSWERS.

A little less
unknown.

Wondering how this works?
You’re in the right place.

When should we start?+

We can start with where your student is today. Earlier conversations can focus on interests and college options; later ones can focus on applications, essays, and the next deadline. An introductory conversation helps us identify the right starting point.

Does my student need a college list already?+

No. Building a balanced list around your student’s interests, goals, and family priorities is one of the ways we can work together. A first list is a starting point, not a commitment.

How are parents involved?+

Parents bring important perspective. We make room for family questions and shared decisions while helping the student take ownership of the process.

Will you write my student’s essays?+

Your student is the author. Advising provides brainstorming, structure, feedback, and revision guidance so the essay reflects their own experiences and voice.

Can we meet virtually?+

Virtual sessions make it easier to fit advising around school and family life. You can share your preferred schedule and interest in local, in-person meetings in the intake form.

Do you guarantee admission?+

No advisor can guarantee an admission decision. Our work focuses on thoughtful school choices, an organized process, and applications that represent your student honestly.

LET’S TAKE THE FIRST STEP

You don’t have to figure
it all out at once.

Just a conversation. A little clarity. A place to begin.

Let’s connect
